Lionel Belmore
Born: May 12, 1867
Died: January 30, 1953 (at the age of 85) |
Born Lionel Belmore on May 12, 1867 in Wimbledon, London, England. His parents
were George Belmore and Alice Cooke. Lionel had 1 older sister Daisy Belmore.
Unlike most people Lionel started his career as a director (1914-1918). Lionel made his career
playing bit parts in several 1930s film classics. He was gainfully employed in Hollywood as
English butlers, innkeepers, lairds, burgomasters and town elders.
Belmore was in "Frankenstein" (1931) and later showing up on the village council in
"Son of Frankenstein" (1939) and "Ghost of Frankenstein" (1942). he would then appear in Warner
Bros films "Prince and the Pauper" (1936) and "The Adventures of Robin Hood" (1938). Even though
he was given good billing, Belmore appeared in Laurel and Hardy's "Bonnie Scotland" (1935).
His role was cut down to him tapping out the Laurel and Hardy theme song on his anvil!
It's Love I'm After (1937) as Friar Lawrence in stage performance with Bette Davis
Lionel Belmore died January 30, 1953 (at the age of 84) in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA.
